Affect of running RMAN and Datapump Transportable tablespace Jobs together

I had to take a datapump transportable tablepsace backup, but there was a scheduled RMAN job which is not noticed. When these two jobs clashed check how did the affect is.

Scenario:

  • EXPDP transportable tablespace backup was initiated at 17:30 hours
  • RMAN backup was scheduled to run at 17:00 hours.
  • By the moment EXPDP transportable tablespace backup started RMAN backup was almost about to complete.

Scripts:

RMAN –

RUN

{

CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF $RETENTION DAYS;

BACKUP AS COMPRESSED BACKUPSET TAG ‘${ALT_TAG}_${LEVEL}’

INCREMENTAL LEVEL $LEVEL

DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;

DELETE NOPROMPT ARCHIVELOG ALL BACKED UP 1 TIMES TO DISK;

}

EXPDP – Transportable tablespace –

expdp system/XYZ directory=$2 dumpfile=TTS_ABC_$1.dmp logfile=TTS_ABC_$1.log transport_tablespaces=$(echo ${TABLESPACES[@]} | tr ” ” “,”)

RMAN error:

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

RMAN-03002: failure of backup plus archivelog command at 06/18/2015 02:59:51

ORA-00028: your session has been killed

ORA-00028: your session has been killed

RMAN>

Conclusion:

Never schedule or run RMAN backup job and transportable tablespace EXPDP backup job together. The error in RMAN log file never gave us NO clue on why this issue has been arrived. Only after intense research from AWR report we were able to identify the cause of it.
